dreaming in black & white

facepots Anthro

For years I would respond “black” when anyone asked me my favorite color.  Of course, as a former art student, I know black is not actually a color!  Nonetheless, I do love black and I have always enjoyed incorporating black and white into my wardrobe, my decor, and even…into my garden.

As a black lover, it has been exciting for me to see so many black and white influences of late.  Today, I am sharing of few of my current favorite black and white inspirations…like these adorable black and white face pots (above) from Anthropologie!  Don’t you want them all?!

Here are a few more Anthropologie home decor items – the (jungle dreams) wallpaper and the lamp below.  The beautifully simple clock is from Target.

Black and white patterned pillows are showing up everywhere and this cool pouf is from Anthro…

This black and white peel and stick wallpaper from Target doesn’t need to be used for the walls – how about covering books on a bookshelf or some old photo albums with faded covers…instant update!  The pendant lamp is available at Crate & Barrel and looks so super with any decor.  The decorative camel figurine is another idea for a Target item that can add an instant black and white update!

black and white home decor piecesThe first complete set of dishes I owned was solid black and I still have a soft spot for black dishware.  I think this matte black batter bowl from Crate & Barrel is super chic!

These zig zag totes from Crate & Barrel add so personality to a linen closet and black and white check dish towels are a staple in my kitchen!  The spreaders from Anthro go beautifully with wood or marble – an easy way to change the look of your current cheeseboard!

kitchen items black and whiteOf course, black and white is showing up in wearable items as well.  Wouldn’t you love this dress and earrings from Anthro for your Labor Day picnic?  The cool loafers are currently on clearance at Banana Republic.

black and white clothingSpeaking of shoes…have you seen the Anna Rifle Keds?  SO cool!  Here is a pair in black.

I hope I have inspired you to incorporate some new black and white accents into your life!

it’s a beach day shopping trip

14
July

This is the time of year when it is really great to shop all the stores and identify the fun summer items you like, because soon they will all go on sale! Online shopping at the end of any season is fun, but I especially love it at the end of the summer because I use these sale items to decorate in a coastal style all year long!

This is the time of year when it is really great to shop all the stores and identify the fun summer items you like, because soon they will all go on sale! Online shopping at the end of any season is fun, but I especially love it at the end of the summer, because I use the clearance coastal items I buy in the summer to decorate all year long!  I am sharing a few of the items with a beach vibe that I am loving right now!

West Elm has some really great ‘beachy’ items this summer.  I love the whimsical trays (in the photo above) – so practical!  And, isn’t the crab pillow (opening photo) adorable?

Arm candy in the summertime is a must!  The photo above shows some of the great creations from bba Bracelets (click here for info).  All the bracelets are handmade and can be made to order!  So fun to design an armful!  They are also great for wedding parties and other special events because you can design your own bracelets with coordinating colored beads, tassels, or charms.  My other love for arm candy is Kiel James Patrick!  What better way to show off a tanned arm than a white rope bracelet with an anchor closure?  Love it!

You may remember from my holiday shopping post that Grace in Niantic, CT is a favorite store of mine.  The epitome of coastal cool!  These are some of my favorite beachy pillows in the current collection of yummy summer items at the shop.

We all know that sometimes disposable paper goods are a must in the summer!  These cuties from West Elm make disposable more than acceptable at any casual gathering!

At $4.99 even the regular price of this Ikea straw bag makes it a crafters delight!  I have decorated it in so many different ways and it makes a great alternative to a gift bag for summer giving!

nipprigbeachbag IKEAFor my furniture projects, Anthropologie is always a go-to for cool hardware…this summer, I am loving the sea life on these knobs!

A cute tote is always in order in the summer, and a great way to help the kids get organized is to have them carrying their own stuff!  This adorable tote from Pottery Barn Kids fits the bill perfectly!  And, by the way, don’t think the items in PB Kids are just for kids!  I bought a great insulated lunch bag with old school stainless storage containers for myself from the catalog!

For myself, in place of a tote bag, I prefer this Sailor stripe backpack by Baggu…cool, right?

Baggu sailor stripe backpackI hope I inspired you to do a little summer perusing of your own!  There are plenty of great items out there – like these awesome ice cube trays available at Nordstrom.  Cheers!

holiday shopping trip

shopping collage

Today’s Friday field trip is a shopping trip! My woodland holiday theme has been so much fun, I thought I would share some of the great items I have come across in my travels. When I decided to put a few photos up for you to see, I never realized how much trouble I would have editing all the great things I have found!

A woodland feeling would not be complete without a cozy blanket or scarf…this one is from L.L. Bean and in a favorite color palette. And, I love the way this set of three tree candles from Crate and Barrel mixes with neutrals. The serving tray from Ballard Designs is perfect to serve ‘fruits, nuts & berries’ at your holiday gathering…make up some candied or spiced nuts to include on your cheese tray!

log cabin incense burner

Doesn’t this bring back memories? Burning Christmas tree smelling incense from a log cabin incense burner is an old time favorite…and it helps bring the Christmas tree smell to every room in your home! This beauty can be purchased at Terrain.

In recent years, straws have been available in so many different varieties…this holiday season you can even find straws that look like birch trees! At Anthropologie, I found these lovely simulated birch bark paper straws…perfect for sipping an icy holiday beverage. No outdoor themed party would be complete without maple leaf shaped maple sugar candies…the Vermont County Store is a wonderful source to find varieties of maple candy. I had to throw in the classic plaid traveling companion! This plaid number is not just for woodland picnics…it can be used to plant small holiday trees or mosses on an entryway table or for planting some succulents or paperwhites indoors. You can purchase this classic at Orvis.

What to wear? Of course you need to coordinate what you wear with the theme! For the little one, how about this adorable handmade creation? SO CUTE! It is available on Etsy from Crochele. Not really my style though…I am planning on wearing this long forest green dress from Anthropologie. To give others to wear, I found some great handmade jewelry pieces for gifts…the bird nest necklace is available on Etsy from Alwaysabridesmade and the silver band squirrel ring is by Elizabeth Ryan and available on her website LookaJewelry.com.

These containers by Carla Peters are available at West Elm and are perfect for a single holiday bloom or…are beautiful all on their own!

Even though I plan on making my woodland themed ornaments (like my acorn ornaments :) for starters), I managed to find something available for the tree that got me excited….the perfect treetopper (at Terrain) for a woodland Christmas…isn’t he great?

I hope you enjoyed our little woodland holiday shopping trip today for Friday field trip. Here in Connecticut it has turned very cold and definitely brings with it thoughts of the holidays (of course Christmas songs playing in all the stores certainly helps this along lol!) Thanks so much for stopping by…

Have a wonderful weekend and remember to take pleasure in simple things, Jackie
