driftwood whale love

my driftwood whale

I have been wanting an Andy Teran whale for quite some time.  What is an Andy Teran whale?  A whale made by Andy Teran from driftwood collected from Connecticut shores!

Recently, I found myself near Andy’s Clinton, CT workshop and, of course, had to stop by!  The fabulous thing about Andy’s creations – besides being created from driftwood found on Connecticut shores – is that they can be made in any size!  I told Andy the exact size I wanted for my whale and he created it!  Because I had a particular spot in mind near my back entrance to hang my creation, I had an exact measurement I wanted for my whale…and, I got it!

The piece of driftwood my piece was created from came from Branford – Stony Creek.

You can see by my photos of Andy’s workshop that he has many whales already created and he is constantly creating more.  He harvests driftwood all year long!

I was excited to finally get my own piece and my guy will be hanging outside soon – once my Easter wreath comes down!

I hope you enjoyed this little glimpse into Andy’s workshop!

Thanks for stopping by!

Have a great weekend.  Remember to take pleasure in simple things, Jackie

storm isaias

isaias

I found an easy way to make good on my promise to change up my perspective at least once a week.  Walking around outside and checking out Storm Isaias, up close and personal, accomplished my perspective change for the week!

Looking back, it probably wasn’t the best idea that It just so happened I was checking it out while a tornado warning was in effect!  But, I’m glad I did.  The coastline was so beautiful to watch during the storm!

Our area of the state – the southwest – was hit especially hard.  Connecticut received a significant amount of the strongest winds from the storm – wind gusts in my town reached 68 mph – which was why I had trouble standing up when I tried to take photos and was only able to take a few!  Watching the rage of the storm and getting soaked by the sea spray was actually invigorating – and the beauty of nature was awe-inspiring.

The storm rated in the top three in the history of our state in terms of power outages (probably at least through the weekend),  It was bad enough so many people were already confined to their homes because of COVID-19, but now many need to leave to seek out a shower, a charging station, or a hot meal – if a store or a restaurant nearby has power and is open!  Or, if the roads on the way aren’t blocked by trees!  Most traffic lights are out, so that poses a hazard as well!

I found a Target open today and the store was operating on what I would guess was ‘generator mode.’  The lighting was barely bright enough to see and the produce area and freezers were empty.

I hope you are faring well if you are in one of the towns in Isaias’s path.

2020 just keeps getting more challenging!

Thanks for stopping by!

harkness memorial state park

garden flowers

Today, I am sharing a few photos from my walk around Harkness Memorial State Park.  The park is the home of Eolia, the former summer mansion purchased in 1907 by the Harkness family, set on over 230 seaside acres in Waterford, Connecticut.

Never having been to the park, my goal for my first visit was to explore the gardens on both the east and west lawns as well as the Alpine rock garden.

And, as it happened, the facility was being set up for a wedding on the afternoon I chose to visit, so I did not venture inside the mansion itself.

I hope you enjoyed a few photos of my walk around Harkness Memorial State Park.  If you should be in the area, it is definitely worth a visit and the park is easily accessed from I-95.

The 200+ acres were left to the state of Connecticut in 1950; becoming a part of the state park system in 1952.  The park is open from 8:00 am to sunset all year long and entrance only requires a minimal parking fee.
